How Caleb Magnino and others like him are changing the world, one smile at a time.
It’s a common occurrence for most of us to have our pictures taken – everyone has a camera nowadays, be it professional-grade or just on our phones. As we are our own worst critics, there are times when we don’t like how we turn out when we see shots of us. Imagine, though, if the main reason you did not like to see pictures of yourself was because you hated your smile – not just because your teeth were crooked or not as white as you would want them to be, but because they were rotting and you could not afford dental care.
Caleb Magnino, Executive Director of Hope Smiles, a dental missions organization that works to bring compassionate, sustainable dental care to people in the United States, Haiti, and Uganda, knows all about the importance of a smile. At first glance, Magnino is a photographer with a great who enjoys telling stories with his photos. As if that is not wonderful enough, he is also a humanitarian with a heart to bring hope and change to the world by capturing the beauty and individual stories of the people whom he shoots with his camera.
Caleb sees his talent as a means to change the world through medical missions. He desires to encourage others to use their talents as he has, to proclaim and demonstrate the power of the Gospel.
The photographer/humanitarian considers himself a “catalytic change agent.” He says, “My gifts and talents combine to unleash the gifts and talents of others, activating them to be the change they want to see in their world. I know that there is a story, a unique narrative, that needs to be told, a world full of art and expression that needs to be created, and a future that needs to be shaped…by the Church, the Bride of Christ and all who compose her.”
